Review: 🇺🇸 Trader Joe’s Ghost Pepper Potato Chips

I answer to Trader Joe's siren call again! This chip could not have come at a better time, after yesterday’s Doritos Flamas wrecked my mouth from over-spiciness, these were a welcome surprise. Despite the ghost pepper and the aggressive bag design, this chip was actually enjoyably spicy. Well seasoned and has a medium kick, but is not mouth destroying. This is the perfect level of spice for those who like spice, have an ok tolerance, but are not masochists.

The chip itself is where I have some mixed opinions. I liked the lattice cut, it made the chip have an interesting “break” and offered a variety of texture. While I did like the lattice cut aspect of it, I concluded that it was absolutely crucial because it made the chip overall thinner. The kettle chip would have otherwise been too too hard, and even with the lattice cut there was still some hard crunching to be done. Luckily (?) most of the bag was broken into smaller pieces...I’m pretty sure this was just a lucky mistake, if they wanted to preserve full chip pieces they should have had more air/less chips in the bag.

So what’s going on with this chip? Here are its highly scientific stats: Saltiness: MEDIUM

Flavor level: MEDIUM-HIGH

Thickness: THIN-MEDIUM

Opinion ratings (1-10): Crunch: 6.0 Texture: 7.2

Flavor: 7.3 Overall: 7.0

Not bad Trader Joe’s, not bad. The flavor and texture of this chip were both pretty good, but the chip itself was still on the hard/not crispy enough side. Either way this was an enjoyable snack and one to pick up whilst trying to navigate Trader Joe’s many mediocre offerings.
