What is it with barbeque snacks being greater than the sum of their parts? The last time this happened was when I tried my current favorite barbeque #chips (by @jacksonshonest), and it happened again with these Barbeque Popped Ridges from #TraderJoes.
This snack is a “ridged potato & corn snack seasoned with tangy barbeque”, which is accurate, but mostly it’s Trader Joe’s version of #popchips. The weird thing that happened was when looking at specific criteria for this chip, really only the flavor is decent. The texture of the chip was slightly puffed and slightly styrofoam-y, I could detect what I thought was corn and potato (some hardness from the corn, some puffy starchness from the potato). The ridges do a good job of holding flavor powder. The overall crunch on this #snack was really not good though, it didn’t break well at all and you really have to chew through the styrofoam texture. Here’s the weird part though, I didn’t mind it that much? It kind of made sense together and with the #barbeque flavor. The barbeque was a decent blend of mostly sweet, slightly tangy, and smokey. I would say it’s more of a sweet #bbq flavor, not the smoky or vinegary ones. There is a weird lingering aftertaste of smoke, but that tends to happen with barbecue flavor. - 📍@traderjoes, Hollywood

Makes no sense, I ate more than I thought so I guess despite the metrics this is a decently satisfying snack!
