Ok here we go, a novelty flavor. @snackswithkat and I just went over this very topic, I’m normally not into limited edition/novelty flavor chips because 1) they’re so hit or miss and can be BAD and 2) even if they’re good, they don’t stick around. That brings me to this seen-on-Instagram chip in the wild, #Ruffles Hot Wings flavor.
This was actually the first time I’ve had Double Crunch and I liked it! I actually might like it more than regular Ruffles, you can really tell it’s kettle cooked since it’s thicker and much crunchier but not too hard. The uniform ridges do make the chips seem more manufactured/artificial though. The flavor - I wasn’t as into. It was a #buffalowing flavor, for those who haven’t had it before, buffalo sauce is vinegar, cayenne pepper, and butter. This tasted like a mass produced buffalo sauce you would buy in a bottle that has an expiration date 10 years from now, not the buffalo sauce made from scratch from a local restaurant or something. Vinegar, as usual, was in the forefront of flavor, and there is some heat but it’s not that spicy. I didn’t detect a specifically chicken flavor, but there was definitely some umami in the background which could be chicken if it was masked by a buffalo sauce. 🤨- 📍@riteaid, Hollywood
So what’s going on with this chip? Here are its highly scientific stats:
Saltiness: HIGH
Flavor level: HIGH
Thickness: MEDIUM-THICK, LARGE RIDGES
Opinion ratings (1-10):
Crunch: 7.8
Texture: 7.2
Flavor: 5.8
Overall: 6.0 This was an edible but incredibly artificial tasting chip who’s flavor I did not love. I actually really like manufactured #chips (hello, love Lays and Doritos) but this was a little egregious. Added to the list of novelty not-inedible-but-will-not-be-repurchasing.
