A widely distributed chip I’ve never tried! First off, the flavor of this chip is excellent. Amazing jalapeño flavor, slightly spicy but not weak, and slightly smoky. Seasoned the perfect amount with a great blend of the pepper and smoke flavor. The spice level also builds as you eat, it never gets spicy-spicy but the flavor does increase nicely as you go. Yum.
It’s a shame though, because while the flavor was delicious, the chip itself is definitely lacking. It’s a little hard, and seems...overcooked? It’s weird because Classic #Lays are constructed incredibly delicately and deliberately, but you can tell the potatoes from their kettle chips were put through a BEATING in the cooking process. There’s the normal higher amount of curled chips and air bubbles as kettle cooked chips tend to have, but even the air bubbles couldn’t help the chip’s over-hardness. There’s also the ever difficult to describe old oil flavor of the chip, which isn’t overpowering but it is detectable even underneath the fantastic jalapeño flavor. Regular Lay’s are a very well crafted chip, but I feel like they need to go back to the drawing board with their #kettlechips. Still overall a decent #snack due to the excellent flavor, but the chip itself is sub-par. @KettleChips definitely makes a better kettle cooked #jalapeno chip. - 📍@riteaid, Hollywood
