I’ve said before in my other #Japanese chip reviews, all Japanese #chips seem to have a slight cup noodle-y/MSG flavor. This is their version of a classic and plain potato chip, and I didn’t know if they would continue that choice. Turns out they did, and turns out I like it!
I think this was a really well crafted chip, it’s the opposite of heavy-handed and is actually quite delicate. You can tell #Koikeya spent a lot of thought and time in developing and refining this product (similar to when the Japanese take 4+ year hiatuses between seasons of #anime 😂). It’s a thin chip and carefully seasoned, I thought the salt level and general MSG enhanced potato flavor were good. While I do generally like MSG, I thought it could’ve used a bit less to let the potato flavor shine more since it’s such a simple chip/not an in-your-face. One other thing that stood out was the chip was a softer fry compared to the greasy/crispy thin chips in the US (think versus #Lays). It still broke well because of how thin it was, but didn’t have that brittleness as a harder fried thin chip. There was actually some...potato texture! Also how beautifully designed is this bag? 😍 - 📍Nijiya Market, West LA
