I haven’t been super into my Asian chip haul, so I kind of went into this one with low expectations. But turns out it exceeded my expectations and was actually one of the best #AsianchipsI’ve had!
The big big disclaimer of this one is that you will NOT like this chip if you don’t like dried seaweed flavor. This chip is very flavored, and the forefront of that flavor is seaweed seaweed seaweed. This did taste very similar to dried seaweed snacks + the whole Asian snack signature of MSG/cup noodle-y flavoring. While that was the forefront of flavor, I thought these weren’t even spicy at first. I thought “Why is it Hot Chili with #Seaweed instead of the other way around?” Then...the hot chili starts creeping up. It never gets crazy spicy, the heat does slowly build up to a nasally spice (like wasabi), not a tongue burning spice like Flaming Hot #Cheetos. It definitely packs a punch while complementing the #nori flavor well. The chip itself was nice, thin but not flimsy, not greasy, had an ok crunch (not the best), and felt like a more refined potato disk. - 📍Nijiya Market, West LA
So what’s going on with this chip? Here are its highly scientific stats:
Saltiness: MEDIUM-HIGH
Flavor level: MEDIUM-HIGH
Thickness: THIN
Opinion ratings (1-10):
Crunch: 6.8
Texture: 7.9
Flavor: 8.0
Overall: 7.6
This is a chip I would repurchase, but I wouldn’t say it’ll be universally liked. If you like Asian flavors, you’ll like it. It you prefer more classic chip flavors, this may not be the chip for you.
