Review: 🇲🇽 Doritos Flamas

Years ago flaming hot flavor was just Cheetos, then it was Funyuns, but now it’s 2019 and it has graced almost everywhere and on everything. I’m not 100% sure these are the Flaming Hot Nacho Doritos, does anyone know? My thought was that this was the same product but packaged and marketed to the Mexican market as just “Flamas”.

The flavor was, to me, the same as flaming hot. I like flaming hot flavor ok, but it’s not what I usually reach for because of the low personal tolerance to a bag. I always like the flavor at first - it’s tangy, tart, very spicy, and is the actual embodiment of the color red as heat. However I’m a slow, single chip eater, so my slowing down came in around chip 7-8, then mouth on fire/can't continue kicked in around chip 15.

The Doritos chip was standard, the usual delicious and consistent medium thin tortilla chip with excellent crunch and some corn texture, and served as good of a carrier as any for the Flamas flavoring. The flavor was distributed well but as all flaming hot, slight inconsistencies do yield extremely hot chips in addition to milder chips.

So what’s going on with this chip? Here are its highly scientific stats: Saltiness: MEDIUM

Flavor level: HIGH

Thickness: MEDIUM

Opinion ratings (1-10): Crunch: 10.0

Texture: 10.0

Flavor: 5.0 Overall: 6.1

Are you a fast chip inhaler who has a high tolerance for spicy spicy pain? If so, these are chips for you! Otherwise, I’d still default to my beloved Nacho Cheese Doritos, these are a bit too much for me but I can still appreciate the construction and appeal it would have for others.
