After a disaster of an attempt using @Google Translate’s camera translator, I gave up on trying to decipher this bag and just decided to go off the single picture of a block of cheddar cheese. This is Japan’s version of #Doritos, cheese flavor (I guess)! Definitely tailored to the #Japanese taste was my first impression. What does that mean exactly? It means the chip was slightly thinner, slightly more brittle, and less of a rough chip with in your face flavor/texture like the American OG. The cheese flavor is what was interesting though, it was what I would describe as what a Japanese person’s view of American cheese would be. It’s slightly sweet, Cheez-whizy, and with a signature umami/MSG-like essence. -📍Nijiya Market, West Los Angeles
So what’s going on with this chip? Here are its highly scientific stats:
Saltiness: MEDIUM
Flavor level: MEDIUM-HIGH
Thickness: THIN-MEDIUM
Opinion ratings (1-10):
Crunch: 7.8
Texture: 7.5
Flavor: 6.5
Overall: 6.9 (Nice.)
All in all, an interesting experience from someone who loves classic Doritos. Rather than focusing on the differences, I did rather enjoy the lighter chip. But the cheese flavor was not my favorite because it was missing some kind of kick/spice, since I think it was just a straight up cheese-only flavor. That being said, the bag was still kind of addicting and fun to eat. Sometimes the Japanese appreciation for Americana gives you #CowboyBebop’s soundtrack and selvedge denim, sometimes it gives you alternate universe/through a wormhole #CheezWhiz Doritos.
