My first tortilla chip review is from a local brand here in Los Angeles: Arboleda. A local farmers market chip maker who now distributed chips locally as well, makes one of my top tortilla chip choices when I’m making nachos, want chips with salsa or guacamole, or even alone (and these chips are great alone too!).
Like most small and local chip brands, this chip has a fresher taste, you can taste more real ingredients, and is somewhat inconsistent. BUT the inconsistency is a good thing! There’s a lot of variety in saltiness, the super salted ones are sooo good. Some have huge air bubbles, which are fun, and some are very oily with my favorite chip oil: rice bran oil. It tastes more like you’re at a Mexican restaurant, and less like opening a manufactured bag of tortilla chips from the grocery store. There’s a good corn flavor and the chip is on the hard side, but the flavor makes up for it.

So what’s going on with this chip? Here are its highly scientific stats: Saltiness: LOW TO HIGH Flavor level: LOW-MEDIUM
Thickness: MEDIUM-THICK
Opinion ratings (1-10): Crunch: 6.5 Texture: 8.5
Flavor: 9.2 Overall: 8.0
What a delicious corn chip! Only downside is it is somewhat hard, but when you get more airy ones or when you heat them up slightly, they’re kind of perfection.
